The Russian aviation authorities have responded today to the EU ban on flights of Russian aircraft throughout their territory with a mirror measure. Now airlines from 36 countries* need a permit from the Federal Air Transport Agency or the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to cross Russia.

This restriction was introduced in response to the closure of airspace to Russian aircraft after operations began in Ukraine on February 24.
